A Long Overdue update (with some photos!)

28 04 2010

It’s been a while. A lot has happened since I boarded the (three) plane(s) from Perth to Seattle; casual observation of the date in the last post will show that I’ve now been here for two months. Well, sixty-seven days in fact – but who’s counting?

There’s been a fair bit going on in the last two months as I’ve settled into work, settled into my temporary apartment, settled out of my temporary housing, and just now have started to settle into my new apartment in the North of downtown Bellevue.

Seattle and Microsoft aside, the other exciting thing in my life is the work I did to turn my thesis into a publishable conference paper has paid off: the paper was accepted to the IEEE WCCI conference in Barcelona this July.  Obviously I’m very excited, but there’s also a bit of work to do in terms of making revisions and getting a presentation ready (not to mention ensuring I have all my work complete so I can take time off).  But I’m really looking forward to it.

In other news, my new apartment is great aside from one thing – the elevator makes a high-pitched ringing noise which is slowly but surely driving me insane.  Any ideas on how to either shield my room (or preferably the whole apartment) from the noise would be more than welcome.

More posts will come, but for now I’ll keep it short.  David out.
